Casinos - Baccarat (also known as Punto Banco)

The object of the game is to get the hand with a point total closest to nine. Aces count as 1, 2 to 9 count as their face value and the remaining cards count as zero.

If the value of the hand is 10 points or more you subtract ten to give the baccarat point value of the hand, e.g. 6 + 8 = 14 so the value is 14 – 10 = 4

At the start of the hand you can decide whether to place a bet on the banker's hand (banco), the player's (punto) or a tie. The player and the banker are then each dealt two cards. In certain cases (see below) a third card is dealt to the player, the banker, or both. The hand closest to 9 wins.

If you bet on the player and the player wins you are paid even money. If you bet on the tie or the banker you lose.

If you bet on the banker and the banker wins you are paid even money, less 5% commission (this is the house edge). If you bet on the tie or the player you lose.

If you bet on the tie and the player's hand and the banker's hand have equal totals you are paid 8/1. If you bet on the player or the banker you lose.

The following rule chart shows when the player and/or banker will automatically be dealt a third card.
