About Bingo

Bingo is a game of chance which has been hugely popular in the UK for many years. It has been played in dedicated bingo halls all over the country with legions of dedicated fans playing on a regular basis. The game has now made its' way on to the internet with hundreds of sites to play at and is attracting a whole new generation of online players.

Bingo can be traced back to 16th century Italy. The Italian government introduced a state lottery, "Lo Giuoco del Lotto d'Italia", which proved to be very popular and remains so to this day. Closer to the bingo we know today is the French version of the lottery, "Le Lotto" which was devised from the Italian version in the 18 th century. This version involved each player having a card with numbers in rows and columns similar to a modern bingo card. A caller drew numbered wooden discs from a bag and called out the number to the players. The winner was the first player to cover all the numbers in a row. The game was adapted in Germany in the 19 th century and was used to teach maths to children.

To play bingo you need to buy a ticket. A typical ticket, as shown below, is arranged into 3 rows and 9 columns with each row containing 5 numbers and 4 blank spaces. The numbers can be up to 75, 80 or 90 depending on the game being played.

Numbers are then drawn randomly and called out, players then check to see if that number appears on their card. If the number is on the card it is marked off (this is known as daubing your numbers). The game continues until one player has marked off all the numbers on their card, this is known as "house".

It is possible to buy more than one ticket for a game and therefore increase your chances of winning.

When playing online you have the choice of daubing your numbers yourself or have them done automatically so you will never miss a number. This also means that you don't have to shout "house" as winning tickets are automatically credited with the winnings.

Bingo halls proved to be very popular throughout the UK due to the fun of playing bingo and the possibility of winning cash prizes. This popularity has now moved on to the internet with a huge number of sites where you can now play bingo 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You never have to wait long for a game because there is always another one starting in a few minutes.
